In the 2nd ODI of the Australia Women tour of Bangladesh 2024, the stage was set at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The visitors again dominated the contest and registered a comfortable victory. With the win the Aussies sealed the 3-match series as well.

Sophie Molineux sizzles with the ball

Bangladesh Women, after winning the toss, elected to bat first, aiming to set a competitive target against the formidable Australian side. However, Bangladesh Women struggled to establish a substantial total, managing to score 97 runs before being bowled out in 44.1 overs. Despite the efforts of Nahida Akter, who scored 22 runs, the team faced a tough challenge against the disciplined bowling attack of the Australian Women.

Sophie Molineux proved to be the standout performer with the ball for Australia, claiming 3 crucial wickets while conceding just 10 runs in her 10 overs. Supported by notable contributions from Megan Schutt, Ellyse Perry, Ashleigh Gardner, and Alana King, the Australian bowlers dominated the proceedings, restricting Bangladesh to a below-par total.

Australia complete easy chase

Chasing a modest target of 98 runs, Australia Women displayed a composed batting performance, reaching the target with ease in just 23.5 overs, losing only four wickets in the process. Ellyse Perry led the charge with a steady innings of 35 runs, guiding her team towards victory.

Bangladesh’s bowling effort, although spirited, couldn’t quite contain the Australian batters. Despite commendable spells from Sultana Khatun and Rabeya Khan, who both picked up a wicket each, Bangladesh couldn’t create enough pressure on the opposition.
