Bangladesh Women faced a tough challenge against the dominant Australia Women in the 1st ODI of the ICC Championship Match, part of the Australia Women tour of Bangladesh 2024, held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.

Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Bangladesh Women aimed to restrict the Australian batting lineup. However, Australia Women put up a commendable performance, scoring 213/7 in their allotted 50 overs. Despite some early setbacks, Annabel Sutherland‘s impressive knock of 58 runs off 76 deliveries and Alana King‘s explosive innings of 46 runs off just 31 balls powered Australia to a competitive total. Marufa Akter and Sultana Khatun were the standout bowlers for Bangladesh, picking up crucial wickets.

Disciplined bowling keep Bangladesh at bay

In reply, Bangladesh Women struggled to chase down the target set by Australia. Their innings faltered, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Despite some resistance from Nigar Sultana, who scored 27 runs, Bangladesh could only manage to put up a total of 95 runs before being bowled out in 36 overs.

The Australian bowlers dominated the proceedings, with Ashleigh Gardner’s impressive bowling performance of 3 wickets for 22 runs being the highlight. With a comprehensive victory by 118 runs, Australia Women asserted their dominance in the match. Alana King was awarded the Player of the Match for her stellar all-round performance, contributing significantly with both bat and ball.
