Barmy Army took on Tornadoes in a highly anticipated match of the Fairbreak Global Women’s T20 2023 at the Kowloon Cricket Club on Saturday, April 8. Barmy Army registered a comprehensive ten wickets victory over Tornadoes in the contest.

Asked to bat first, Tornadoes started their innings steadily, with Sterre Kalis and Dane van Niekerk opening the innings. Although they lost a few early wickets, Sune Luus and Natasha Miles played some brilliant cricket, adding 65 and 40 runs, respectively. Luus smashed six fours and three maximums in her innings and helped Tornadoes set a target of 161 runs for Barmy Army to win. On the other hand, Tara Norris and Sana Fatima picked one wicket each for their team.

In response, Barmy Army got off to a flying start, with Lauren Winfield and Laura Wolvaardt playing some spectacular shots all around the park. Winfield was the standout performer, scoring an unbeaten 120 off just 64 balls, with seventeen fours and five sixes. Wolvaardt also played her part, scoring a quickfire 40 off 31 balls. Barmy Army chased down the target in just 15.4 overs without losing any wickets and won the match by a comprehensive ten-wicket margin.

Winfield was declared ‘Player of the Match’ for her sensational century.

With the win, Barmy Army moved up to the third spot in the points table, while Tornadoes slipped further down to fifth position. Notably, Barmy Army have won two of the three games that they have played in the league so far. Meanwhile, Tornadoes are yet to open their account in the tournament.
