In a thrilling encounter at Bellerive Oval for Match 20 of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023, the Hobart Hurricanes Women registered a hard-fought victory against the Melbourne Stars Women.

Electing to bat first after winning the toss, the Melbourne Stars managed to put up a competitive total of 142/8 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to a resilient 75-run knock by Meg Lanning.

Meanwhile,  a disciplined bowling attack of the Hobart Hurricanes, led by impressive performances from Molly Strano and Shabnim Ismail, ensured that the Stars were restricted to a manageable total. Strano and Ismail scalped 2 and 3 wickets respectively, while Maisy Gibson and Amy Smith also chipped in with significant contributions.

Chasing 143 for victory, the Hobart Hurricanes put up a solid batting display, anchored by crucial innings from Elyse Villani, who scored 41 runs, and a match-defining partnership between Nicola Carey and Naomi Stalenberg.

The Hobart Hurricanes reached the target in 19.2 overs, securing a comfortable 6-wicket victory.

In recognition of her impactful performance with both bat and ball, Nicola Carey was rightfully awarded the Player of the Match.
