The Hobart Hurricanes Women locked horns with the Sydney Thunder Women in Match 17 of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 at the University of Tasmania Stadium on Monday, October 30.

Hobart Hurricanes Innings:

The Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a formidable target of 174/3 in their allotted 20 overs. The top-order provided a solid foundation, with Lizelle Lee being the star performer, scoring an explosive 91 runs off just 54 deliveries. Her innings was adorned with 12 fours and 2 sixes, anchoring the Hurricanes’ innings. Elyse Villani contributed 40 runs from 34 balls, while Heather Graham‘s brisk 31 off 23 balls added significant impetus to the total.

Marizanne Kapp, Samantha Bates and Ebony Hoskin picked up a wicket each for the Sydney Thunder.

Sydney Thunder Innings:

Chasing a target of 175, the Sydney Thunder showed promise but fell short, managing to score 150/6 in their 20 overs. Phoebe Litchfield was the standout performer for the Thunder, notching up an impressive 68 runs off 43 deliveries, which included 6 fours and 4 sixes. However, the rest of the batting order struggled to maintain the required run rate, ultimately resulting in a victory for the Hobart Hurricanes.

Molly Strano bowled brilliantly for her the Women in Purple, taking 2 key wickets, while Nicola Carey and Amy Smith chipped in with crucial wickets to disrupt the Thunder’s chase.
