The eighth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup started in South Africa on Friday, February 10.
In the opening game, Sri Lanka stunned hosts South Africa with a 3-run victory. Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu led from the front with a sparkling 68 off just 50 deliveries, including 12 boundaries.
The Islanders defended a competitive total of 129/4 by restricting the Proteas to 126/9. Inoka Ranaweera was the pick of the bowlers with 3/18, while Oshadi Ranasinghe (2/20) and Oshadi Ranasinghe (2/28) scalped two wicket each.
The summit clash of the marquee event will take place on February 26 in Cape Town.
