In the 11th match of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023, the Sydney Thunder Women emerged victorious, defeating the Melbourne Renegades Women by 8 wickets. This was Thunder’s second straight victory in the tournamenet.

Georgia Wareham takes Melbourne Renegades to a respectable total

Winning the toss, the Sydney Thunder Women elected to bowl, and it proved to be a strategic decision. The Melbourne Renegades Women managed to score 147/5 in their allotted 20 overs. The notable contributions came from Georgia Wareham, who scored an impressive 47 runs off 34 balls, and Courtney Webb, who added 31 runs off 30 deliveries to the total.

In the bowling department, Marizanne Kapp and Chamari Athapaththu shone for Sydney Thunder Women, taking one wicket each and conceding 26 and 20 runs, respectively. Ebony Hoskin also contributed with the ball, taking a wicket while giving away 18 runs.

Chamari Athapaththu drives Sydney Thunder Women over the finish line

The Sydney Thunder Women chased down the target with ease, finishing at 151/2 in just 17.3 overs. Athapaththu was the star of the innings, playing a scintillating knock of 80 runs from 54 balls, including 13 fours and 2 sixes. Tahlia Wilson and Phoebe Litchfield also made valuable contributions with the bat, scoring 28 and 18 runs, respectively.

In the bowling department for the Melbourne Renegades Women, Wareham was the most successful, taking 2 wickets for 23 runs in her 4 overs. The rest of the bowlers struggled to make breakthroughs, as the Sydney Thunder Women comfortably reached the target.
