In an exciting encounter of the Australia Women tour of Ireland 2023, the touring party displayed a dominant performance to secure a comprehensive 10-wicket victory at Castle Avenue on Friday.

Australia won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that would prove to be advantageous for them as their bowlers immediately put pressure on the Irish batting lineup. Despite some resistance from individual batters, Ireland managed to post a total of 217 runs in their 49 overs. Orla Prendergast was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a brilliant 71 off 109 deliveries. Gaby Lewis and Laura Delany also contributed with scores of 35 and 36, respectively.

The Australian bowlers put on a disciplined effort, led by Kim Garth, who claimed an impressive three wickets for just 34 runs in her eight overs. Ashleigh Gardner and Darcie Brown also made crucial breakthroughs, taking three wickets each, while the rest of the bowlers chipped in with crucial spells to restrict Ireland’s total.

Chasing a target of 218 runs for victory, Australia’s opening pair showed tremendous class and composure. Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland displayed a masterful batting display, remaining unbeaten throughout the innings and smashing their respective centuries.

Phoebe Litchfield’s brilliant knock of 106 runs off 114 deliveries, supported by 14 boundaries, set the tone for Australia’s dominant chase. Annabel Sutherland complemented her partner with an explosive inning of 109 runs off 101 balls, smashing 11 fours.

Ireland’s bowlers struggled to make inroads into the Australian batting lineup, failing to pick up any wickets throughout the innings. Despite their efforts, the Australian batters continued to attack and reached the target with ease, achieving a commanding victory in just 35.5 overs.
