The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to launch the Women’s Premier League (WPL) and has gained a lot of admiration for their relentless efforts to make the event a grand success. A total of five teams will be seen participating in the upcoming tournament, while players from around the globe have started registering for the auction, which will take place next month.
Australian star cricketer Alyssa Healy has confirmed that she will be taking part in the upcoming inaugural edition of the WPL. The world champion also revealed the team she would like to play for in the maiden event.
In an interview at the Australian cricket awards, Healy was asked if she is keen to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first-ever edition of WPL like her husband, Mitchell Starc – who represented RCB in the 2014 and 2015 IPL seasons.
In response, Healy confirmed her tournament participation and said it would be nice to go to RCB. Notably, the wicketkeeper-batter visited the RCB camp several times during Starc’s run for the franchise.

Healy has 2300 runs to her name in 136 T20Is at a strike rate of 127.91 with a century in the format. The right-handed batter with immense experience and various achievements under her belt is expected to grab a huge amount in the auction. She could also become the most expensive buy of the opening season.
On the other hand, Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Shafali Verma would be the players from India to watch out for in the auction. Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that India’s veteran cricketer Mithali Raj will not be coming out of her retirement but will join the Adani-owned Ahmedabad franchise as a mentor and advisor.
Talking about the WPL auction, the teams have a purse of 12 crores for this edition, and an increment of 1.5 crores will take place every year until the next four seasons, making the amount rise to 18 crores in 2027.
