Australia’s Troy Cooley has been roped in as the bowling coach of India women’s cricket team ahead of the T20I Tri-series, and the T20 World Cup set to be held in South Africa.

Cooley has been the fast bowling coach at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru since 2021 and recently worked with the India A men’s team that defeated Bangladesh A in their den.

“Yes, he’s (Cooley) with us. We’ve already worked with him at the NCA and almost every bowler knows him well. He’s already with the team and we are working with him,” said Team India captain Harmanpreet Kaur ahead of their first match in T20I Tri-series against South Africa.

“He’s been very excited and sharing his experiences with the bowlers. Everyone loves to work with him. It’s working really well, hopefully we will see the results also,” she added.

The T20I Tri-series, including West Indies as the third team, is scheduled to be played from January 19 to February 2, 2023.

The Women in Blue struggled with their bowling in the home series against Australia, conceding more than 170 runs in each of the five games and faced a heavy defeat of 1-4 in the T20I leg.

In the Tri-series, Kaur & Co. will look to improve their bowling performance under the coaching of 52-year-old Cooley. During his mentorship for the England men’s team, he helped players like Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison, Simon Jones, Matthew Hoggard and James Anderson amongst others in improving their bowling.
