India gears up to defend their Women’s Asia Cup crown with a familiar squad announced by the BCCI on Saturday, July 6.
The tournament, kicking off July 19 in Sri Lanka, will be played in the T20 format, acting as a crucial stepping stone for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in Bangladesh.
Harmanpreet Kaur to lead the Women in Blue
Harmanpreet Kaur retains captaincy with Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain. The core group remains largely unchanged, with the selection committee opting for continuity over experimentation. Amanjot Kaur and Shabnam Shakil, who were a late addition to the squad for the ongoing South Africa series are the notable omissions.
India, the most successful team in the tournament’s history with seven titles, finds themselves in Group A alongside Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Nepal. They enter the competition as reigning champions, looking to extend their dominance against familiar rivals.
