The craze for Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 reached a fever pitch as Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) locked horns in a thrilling Eliminator match of the league on Friday (March 15). The contest kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the last ball, and everyone was glued to their screens.

Ellyse Perry inspired RCB confirms final berth

As RCB secured a thrilling win in the end, the whole stadium erupted in jubilation. Interestingly, fans across the world also couldn’t control their emotions. A video has now gone viral on the internet where passengers in Delhi Metro can be seen shouting RCB and Ellyse Perry‘s name.

It is worth mentioning that Ellyse Perry was the star of the show for RCB in the final and it was hers all-round performance only that ensured RCB’s win and final spot. Perry contributed brilliant 66 runs with the bat followed by and an impressive spell with the ball.

As Perry powered RCB to win and the team reached finals, the Delhi Metro turned into a celebratory stage as passengers enthusiastically reverberated it with the chants of the match’s hero, Perry. The video of the same soon went viral on the internet.

Perry’s heroics for RCB

As far as the match is concerned, winning the toss and opting to bat first RCB posted a competitive total of 135/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Perry emerged as the standout performer with a brilliant knock of 66 runs off 50 deliveries, comprising 8 fours and 1 six. Contributions from Georgia Wareham (18 off 10) and Richa Ghosh (14 off 19) bolstered the team’s total.

Despite some early breakthroughs by the Mumbai Indians bowlers, including Hayley Matthews (2 wickets) and Natalie Sciver (2 wickets), the Bangalore-based team managed to set a challenging target.

Mumbai Indians fail to chase the set target

Chasing 136 for victory, Mumbai Indians made a valiant effort but fell short by just five runs, finishing at 130/6 in their 20 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur (33 off 30) and Amelia Kerr (27 off 25) provided significant contributions, but the team couldn’t quite reach the target set by RCB.

Impressive bowling spells from Shreyanka Patil (2 wickets for 16 runs) and Perry (1 wicket for 29 runs) restricted Mumbai’s batting lineup, ensuring a tight finish to the match.
