New Zealand Women emerged victorious against Pakistan Women in a thrilling first ODI of the three-match series at John Davies Oval on Tuesday (December 12). The contest saw exceptional batting prowess from both sides, but it was Suzie Bates‘ century for the White Ferns that stood out among all.
New Zealand’s batting brilliance and Suzie Bates’ ton
Asked to bat first, New Zealand Women displayed exceptional batting prowess and posted an imposing total of 365/4 in their allotted 50 overs. Suzie led the charge with a brilliant century, scoring 108 runs off 104 deliveries.
The exceptional knock of Suzie featured eleven fours and marked her 13th ton in the 50-over format. She is now just two hundreds away from surpassing Aussie legend Meg Lanning‘s record for most tons in ODIs.
Other valuable contributions
Coming back to the match, Suzie’s innings was well complimented by Bernadine Bezuidenhout (86), Amelia Kerr (83), and Sophie Devine (70) as they also made significant contributions to the team’s commanding total.
Sidra Ameen’s valiant effort for Pakistan
In pursuit of chasing the challenging target, Pakistan Women commenced their innings with determination. Sidra Ameen‘s valiant century, scoring 105 runs off 117 balls, stood out as a remarkable effort. With the century, Sidra became the only women cricketer from Pakistan to hammer a ton against New Zealand.ย However, the White Ferns’ bowling attack, led by Kerr with three wickets, proved too formidable for the visitors.

Suzie was rightfully awarded the “Player of the Match” for her stellar century, which played a pivotal role in shaping New Zealand’s imposing total.
