In front of a record women’s The Hundred 2025 crowd at Lord’s, Northern Superchargers delivered when it mattered most, defeating Southern Brave by seven wickets to claim their first-ever The Hundred Women’s title on August 31, 2025. The victory marked a sweet redemption for the Superchargers, who had lost to the same opponents in the 2023 final, and ended Southern Brave‘s perfect eight-match winning streak in spectacular fashion.
Southern Brave’s batting struggles under pressure in the final
The Brave, who had entered the final as the only unbeaten team in the tournament’s history, never found their rhythm after being put into bat first. Despite an explosive start from Maia Bouchier, who launched Annabel Sutherland for the first six of the final, and Danni Wyatt-Hodge adding another maximum off Kate Cross, the innings quickly unraveled.
Cross struck the decisive early blows, dismissing Bouchier (13) and then bowling Laura Wolvaardt for a golden duck with consecutive deliveries, reducing Brave to 28 for 2. The collapse continued when Sutherland removed the dangerous Wyatt-Hodge for 25, leaving Brave reeling at 43 for 3. Sophie Devine attempted to stabilize the innings alongside Freya Kemp, but their 43-run partnership was broken when Lucy Higham had Devine caught by Phoebe Litchfield for a laboured 23 off 28 balls.
Kemp briefly counter-attacked with three boundaries in quick succession, but her promising knock of 26 off 16 balls ended when she skied Sutherland to Nicola Carey at midwicket. A horror run-out of captain Georgia Adams further damaged their cause, and despite Mady Villiers’ late cameo of 17 not out off 11 balls, Brave could only manage 115 for 6. Cross and Sutherland were the bowling architects of this restriction, both finishing with identical figures of 2-23.
Annabel Sutherland and Nicola Carey script Northern Superchargers’ first The Hundred triumph
The chase began with teenager Davina Perrin looking dangerous, striking boundaries with a paddle sweep and a ramp shot over the wicketkeeper, but Devine’s bowling struck early to remove her for 17. This brought tournament MVP Litchfield to the crease, who needed just 22 runs to finish as the competition’s leading run-scorer. She achieved this milestone in spectacular fashion, taking only 11 balls to reach the target while dismantling Villiers’ bowling with two fours and a massive six over mid-off.

After a brief rain delay that saw the Superchargers well ahead on Duckworth-Lewis calculations, Chloe Tryon provided Southern Brave’s only moment of hope by dismissing Litchfield for 26 off 13 balls. However, this only brought together the tournament’s two standout Australian performers: Sutherland and Carey.
The pair formed an unbroken 60-run partnership off 44 balls that sealed the victory with authority. Carey, who had joined the squad just two weeks earlier as a replacement for the injured Georgia Wareham, played the anchor role with an unbeaten 35 off 25 balls, striking five boundaries at crucial moments. Her knock earned her the Player of the Match award, capping a remarkable fortnight that saw her travel from a cold Tasmanian pre-season to lifting the Hundred trophy.
Sutherland provided the perfect finishing touch, hitting the winning runs with a towering six off Adams to finish unbeaten on 28 off 25 balls. Her all-round performance, taking 2-23 with the ball and then guiding the chase home, epitomized the Superchargers’ balanced approach throughout their title-winning campaign. The victory was sealed with 12 balls to spare, underlining the comprehensive nature of their triumph and marking the culmination of what captain Hollie Armitage had dubbed the ‘fantastic Aussies’ contribution to their success.
