London Spirit produced a dominant display in The Hundred women’s clash on Monday, thumping local rivals Oval Invincibles by eight wickets with 38 balls to spare. Exceptional spells from Eva Gray and skipper Charlie Dean set up the win, before opener Kira Chathli’s explosive half-century sealed the deal.

Spirit’s bowlers set the tone for victory

Opting to bowl first, Dean’s decision proved spot on as Spirit’s attack suffocated the Invincibles’ batters. Dean and Gray were the standouts, each picking up two wickets while conceding just 12 runs from their 20 balls. Dean also took two sharp catches, earning Player of the Match award.

Support from Charli Knott, Sarah Glenn and Issy Wong ensured the Invincibles were restricted to a modest 108/8.

Marizanne Kapp fought hard with a gritty 32 off 25, but lacked support as the Invincibles failed to build partnerships. Paige Scholfield (22) and Meg Lanning (19) got starts but couldn’t kick on, while the rest of the line-up crumbled under Spirit’s pressure.

Chathli’s fireworks seal the chase for Spirit

Chasing 109, Spirit’s openers blew the Invincibles away. Kira Chathli smashed 53 off 29 balls, striking seven fours and two sixes, while Georgia Redmayne anchored with a fluent 42. Their 106-run stand ended the contest before the Invincibles could find a way back, with only Phoebe Franklin (2/10) offering resistance.

The win lifted London Spirit to third in the standings with 20 points from eight matches, strengthening their playoff bid. For the struggling Invincibles, stuck in sixth with just eight points, the defeat was another blow to their campaign.
