England bounced back convincingly to level the three-match ODI series against India, registering a comprehensive eight-wicket victory at Lord’s in a rain-affected match. A brilliant bowling performance led by Player of the Match Sophie Ecclestone restricted the visitors to a below-par total, which the English openers then chased down with ease.
India Women’s innings: Batting struggles on a tricky surface
After England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt won the toss and elected to bowl under overcast conditions, India’s batting lineup struggled to build momentum. The innings, reduced to 29 overs due to rain, saw a promising start from Smriti Mandhana, who top-scored with a patient 42 off 51 balls. However, wickets fell at regular intervals around her.
The English spinners were particularly effective in the middle overs, with Sophie Ecclestone leading the charge. She proved to be unplayable at times, finishing with exceptional figures of 3/27. Her scalps included the crucial wickets of Harleen Deol (16), Harmanpreet Kaur (7) and Richa Ghosh (2). England’s seamers also chipped in, with Emily Arlott and Linsey Smith claiming two wickets apiece.
A late-innings rescue act from Deepti Sharma (30*) and Arundhati Reddy (14) helped India Women post a total of 143/8, a fighting score but one that felt short of a par total for the conditions.

England Women’s innings: A clinical chase
Chasing a revised target of 115 from 24 overs due to a second rain delay, England’s openers Amy Jones and Tammy Beaumont laid the perfect foundation. They put on a rapid 54-run partnership, with Beaumont providing the early impetus with a quickfire 34 off 35 balls, including five fours.
Although Sneh Rana broke the partnership by dismissing Beaumont, Amy Jones remained steadfast at the other end. She played a superb, unbeaten innings of 46 off 57 balls, guiding her team towards the target with composure. Jones was well-supported by captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt (21) before a final flourish from Sophia Dunkley (9*) saw England cross the line comfortably in the 21st over.
