The second match of the Women’s ODI Tri-Series between India and South Africa at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium was a thrilling contest that had fans on the edge of their seats. After winning the toss, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur chose to bat first, setting the stage for a competitive game. India posted a strong total of 276 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to some solid batting performances. However, it was South Africa’s Tazmin Brits who stole the spotlight with a magnificent century during the chase, thrilling cricket enthusiasts around the world.

India’s steady batting lays a strong foundation

India’s innings began with a steady approach as opener Pratika Rawal played a patient and determined knock. Rawal scored 78 runs off 91 balls, carefully building her innings with seven boundaries and a six. She was well supported by Smriti Mandhana, who contributed 36 runs, and Harleen Deol, who added 29. The Indian batting lineup showed great resilience as they steadily accumulated runs, reaching 150 by the 30th over. Later in the innings, Jemimah Rodrigues and captain Kaur accelerated the scoring rate, with Rodrigues hitting 41 off just 32 balls and Kaur finishing unbeaten on 41. Richa Ghosh’s quickfire 24 runs off 14 balls helped India reach a competitive total of 276/6 by the end of their 50 overs.

Tazmin Brits’ blistering century lights up the chase

Chasing a challenging target, South Africa began their innings confidently, with Brits leading the charge. From the very start, Brits was in aggressive form, striking the ball cleanly and running hard between the wickets. She reached her half-century in just 45 balls, displaying a mix of powerful boundaries and smart shot selection. Brits continued to dominate the Indian bowlers, racing to her century in 103 balls, which included 13 fours and 3 sixes. Her innings was a perfect blend of power and grace, as she took on the bowlers with fearless strokes, thrilling the crowd with her attacking style. Unfortunately, just as she was settling in for a big finish, Brits had to retire hurt after scoring 108 runs. Despite this setback, her brilliant century kept South Africa firmly in the game and gave her team a fighting chance in the chase.
