India’s middle-order batter Harleen Deol recently talked about her first call-up for the national team and revealed how her family reacted to it. Notably, she made her India debut during a One Day International (ODI) against England on February 22, 2019 and was only the second cricketer from Chandigarh to play for India after Taniya Bhatia.

Harleen has so far played seven 50-over games for India and has amassed 104 runs, while in T20Is, she represented her national team on 22 occasions scoring 245 runs and has eight wickets to her name across the two formats. She hit the headlines in July 2021 after a video of her acrobatic catch at the boundary rope got viral. It also got her the praise from legendary Sachin Tendulkar and the Honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi.

Harleen was even part of India’s Commonwealth Games 2022 runner-up team.

Currently, she is representing the Gujarat Giants team in the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). Talking about her maiden call-up for the national team, the right-handed batter recalled how her mother told her to confirm if the selection call she got was genuine and not a prank.

In a video shared by Gujarat Giants on their official Twitter handle, under the series named ‘My Giant Moment’, the Himachal cricketer can be heard revealing the back story of her selection for the Indian team. She told that how unexpected it was for her to get a call from the management.

Here’s the video:

Before Harleen, Gujarat’s head coach Rachael Haynes also got featured in the ‘My Giant Moment’ and talked about a life-changing conversation with her family.

As of now, the Gujarat-based team sits at the fourth spot in the WPL 2023 points table with just one win in four matches. They also faced a setback at the start of the tournament as their skipper Beth Mooney got ruled out from the event following an injury and was replaced by Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa.
