In one of the most dramatic encounters of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Delhi Capitals (DC) edged past Rajasthan Royals (RR) in a Super Over thriller at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. After a fluctuating 40-over battle that saw both teams trade blows in equal measure, it all came down to the final over of the Rajasthan Royals’ innings. Chasing a modest target of 189, the Royals needed just nine runs off the last over, but Mitchell Starc produced a breathtaking spell of death bowling that yielded only eight runs.

Super over heroics seal the deal for Delhi Capitals

In the super over, RR batted first and managed to post 11 runs, setting a target of 12 for DC with Starc nailing once again his pinpoint yorkers at ferocious pace. With the pressure high, DC sent in KL Rahul and the explosive Tristan Stubbs to chase the target. RR handed the responsibility of the super over to Sandeep Sharma, but the calmness and experience of Rahul, combined with Stubbs’ ability to finish matches, proved too much.  The duo finished off the match in just four deliveries, securing Delhi’s fifth win in six matches and strengthening their playoff position. The stadium erupted in celebration as DC pulled off a nail-biting finish, with Starc rightly named the Player of the Match for his clutch performance at the death and for being the difference in the game’s most critical moments.
