At the Manuka Oval, Canberra, cricket fans witnessed a thrilling encounter as Australia edged out England in the second T20I of the Women’s Ashes 2025. The match featured impressive performances with both bat and ball, keeping the crowd entertained till the very end.

After being sent in to bat by England, Australia posted a commanding total of 185/5 in their 20 overs. Beth Mooney led the charge at the top, scoring 44 off 31 balls with seven boundaries. Tahlia McGrath, the eventual Player of the Match, played a pivotal knock of 48 not out off 35 deliveries, including eight fours, anchoring the innings in the middle overs. Grace Harris provided a late flourish with a quickfire 35 not out off 17 balls, smashing two fours and three sixes. Charlotte Dean was the standout bowler for England, claiming 2/28 in her four overs, while Freya Kemp and Sophie Ecclestone picked up a wicket each.

Heather Knight almost takes England to the finish line

Chasing 186, England started cautiously, with Maia Bouchier contributing 13 off 14 balls. Danielle Wyatt was in fine form, scoring a brisk 52 off 40 deliveries, including eight fours. Sophia Dunkley added a useful 32 off 22 balls, while skipper Heather Knight nearly pulled off a miraculous finish with her explosive 43 off just 19 balls, hitting six fours and one six. However, despite their best efforts, England could only manage 168/4 in 19.1 overs when rain intervened. Megan Schutt was the pick of the Australian bowlers, claiming 2/32 in her four overs, while Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland chipped in with a wicket apiece.

The rain-affected game saw Australia clinch victory by six runs (DLS method), helping them secure the Women’s Ashes once again.
