The much-anticipated ODI series between Australia and India began on December 5 at Allan Border Field in Brisbane. After winning the toss and electing to bat, India’s decision backfired as they were bowled out for a paltry total of 100 in just 34.2 overs. Jemimah Rodrigues was the top scorer for India with a modest 23 runs, while the rest of the batting lineup struggled against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack.
Australian pacer Megan Schutt delivered a remarkable performance, claiming a sensational five-wicket haul. Her ability to generate movement with the ball proved too much for India’s batters to handle. Kim Garth also bowled a probing spell with the new ball, applying pressure early and helping Schutt capitalize on India’s vulnerability.
Phoebe Litchfield’s stunning catch steals the show
While the Australian bowlers were the stars of the game, their fielding was equally impressive, with Phoebe Litchfield delivering a standout moment. Widely regarded as Australia’s next captain, Litchfield showcased her athleticism and sharp reflexes during the 33rd over of India’s innings.
Saima Thakor attempted to guide the ball towards the cover region, but Litchfield, stationed at the position, dived forward to pluck an incredible one-handed catch. The spectacular effort not only dismissed Thakor but also highlighted Australia’s dominance in all aspects of the game.

India’s batting collapse and key moments
India’s batting collapse was a major talking point as they lost their last five wickets for just 11 runs. Despite bright and sunny conditions, which seemed ideal for batting, the Indian lineup failed to capitalize. Garth’s consistent bowling early on set the tone, while Schutt’s brilliant spell sealed India’s fate.
Harleen Deol looked promising as she managed to weather the storm from Schutt and Garth, but her dismissal to spin triggered a middle-order collapse. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur briefly steadied the innings before falling victim to Annabel Sutherland’s nip-backer. Richa Ghosh, known for her aggressive batting, was undone by a sharp short ball from Schutt, which marked the beginning of the end for India.
Schutt, who finished with career-best figures, was undoubtedly the hero with the ball. Her early breakthroughs and ability to clean up the lower order left India reeling, resulting in one of their lowest ODI totals in recent times.
