After opting to bowl first, Sydney Thunder struggled to contain the Hurricanes, who managed to post a competitive total of 141/7 in their 20 overs.
Nicola Carey leads Hobart Hurricanes’ charge with the bat
The Hurricanes’ innings was anchored by a solid knock from Nicola Carey, who played a crucial role with her 52 runs off 38 deliveries. Carey’s innings, studded with seven boundaries, provided the backbone to the Hurricanes’ innings after a shaky start. Danielle Wyatt (18) and Elyse Villani (21) chipped in with useful contributions at the top. Towards the end, Tabatha Saville added a brisk 23 off 16 balls, which included a six, to push the total past 140.
Sydney Thunder’s bowlers managed to pick up regular wickets, with Samantha Bates being the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3/20 in her four overs. Chamari Athapaththu also made an impact with 2/26, while Sammy Jo Johnson and Georgia Adams chipped in with one wicket each.

Sydney Thunder fall short despite Phoebe Litchfield’s heroics
Chasing 142 for victory, Sydney Thunder Women’s batting lineup crumbled under pressure as they were bowled out for 110 in 18 overs. Phoebe Litchfield stood out with a valiant 51 off 37 balls, hitting five fours and a six. However, she received little support from her teammates, with Anika Learoyd (29 off 27) being the only other batter to make a meaningful contribution. The Thunder struggled to build partnerships, and frequent wickets halted their momentum throughout the chase.
Heather Graham was the star with the ball for the Hurricanes, taking 3/19 in her four overs. She was well supported by Lauren Smith (2/17) and Chloe Tryon (2/19), who kept the pressure on the Thunder batters. Molly Strano also played her part with a tight spell, picking up one wicket while conceding just 22 runs.
For her all-round performance, Carey was awarded the Player of the Match. Not only did she anchor the Hurricanes’ innings with the bat, but she also contributed with the ball, keeping things tight and playing a key role in the Hurricanes’ comprehensive victory.
