Star all-rounder Stafanie Taylor has been picked in West Indies’ squad for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa but still needs to prove her fitness following injury.
“For now it’s just about the physio and medical people and the coaches managing the load with Stafanie,” Hayley Matthews, the Windies captain, said of Taylor last week.
“The T20 World Cup is the main picture for us here in South Africa and we want to try and manage her as best as possible and have her fit and ready for the World Cup.”
Three other players, Shakera Selman, Chinelle Henry and Chedean Nation, who are recovering from their injury problems, have been selected.
For the ICC event, the 2016 champions have also included three members of their recent Under-19 T20 World Cup squad – Zaida James, Trishan Holder and Djenaba Joseph.
“We believe the 15 players consist of a good all-round mix and we expect them to be able to compete in this World Cup,” said lead selector Ann Browne-John in his official statement.
West Indies, who haven’t won a single T20I out of their last 13 games since September 2022, are placed in the same group as England, India, Pakistan and Ireland at the T20 WC. They will begin their hunt for the second title on February 11 against England in Paarl.
