Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) registered their second win in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2025 with a confident five-wicket victorywin over Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in Match 4 at Providence Stadium, Guyana.

Trinbago Knight Riders’ batting struggles despite Jess Jonassen’s fifty

Winning the toss, TKR chose to bat first but failed to capitalize on the decision. Opener Lizelle Lee fell cheaply for just 2 runs, setting the tone for a cautious powerplay.

Jess Jonassen anchored the innings with a fighting 51 off 45 balls, including 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Veteran Deandra Dottin chipped in with a steady 31 from 33 balls, but her innings lacked acceleration.

Zaida James (15 off 24) played a supporting role, but the middle order never found the momentum needed to push past 130.

The GAW bowling was spearheaded by Molly Penfold (4/17), who rattled TKR’s batting with pace and accuracy. She was well supported by Karishma Ramharack (1/15) and Stafanie Taylor (1/24) as the Knight Riders were restricted to 123/7 in 20 overs.

Stafanie Taylor anchors Guyana Amazon Warriors’ run chase

Chasing 124, Guyana’s innings began with a cautious approach. Opener Amy Hunter provided a steady start with 27 off 31 balls, but early wickets meant the chase needed stability.

That stability came from skipper Stafanie Taylor, who delivered a classic knock under pressure. She scored a patient 39 off 44 balls, anchoring the innings while rotating strike and finding timely boundaries.

Contributions down the order kept the momentum alive:

  • Laura Harris added a quick 10 off 5 balls, including a six.
  • Dane van Niekerk chipped in with 12 off 12 to push the score closer to the target.

Despite minor hiccups, GAW successfully chased down the target in 18.5 overs, finishing at 125/5.

TKR’s bowlers tried to make a game out of a modest total:

  • Shikha Pandey (2/23) was impressive with her variations.
  • Salonee Dangore (2/27) also claimed crucial breakthroughs to keep her side in contention.
  • Jess Jonassen (0/16 in 4 overs) bowled tightly but could not find wickets when needed.

However, the lack of scoreboard pressure made their efforts fall short.

Player of the Match

While Molly Penfold’s early strikes were pivotal, it was Stafanie Taylor’s calm and calculated 39-run knock that made the ultimate difference. Under her leadership, GAW paced the chase perfectly, ensuring no late collapse. Her all-round contribution (39 runs and 1/24 with the ball) sealed her the Player of the Match award.
