A brilliant, unbeaten half-century from Australian batter Phoebe Litchfield led the Northern Superchargers to a decisive eight-wicket victory over the Birmingham Phoenix at Headingley. This win, the team’s third consecutive, propelled the Superchargers to the top of The Hundred Women’s 2025 points table.

Phoenix Litchfield’s masterclass secures dominant win for Northern Superchargers

Chasing 117 for victory, the Superchargers’ innings was anchored by Litchfield’s aggressive 59 not out off just 28 balls. Her knock, which included 11 boundaries, helped the team complete the chase in just 74 balls. After coming to the crease following the early dismissal of opener Davina Perrin, Litchfield formed a 32-run partnership with Alice Davidson-Richards, followed by an unbroken 58-run stand with fellow Australian Annabel Sutherland, who contributed a quick 20 not out off 13 balls. The duo sealed the win with 26 balls to spare, leaving the Phoenix bowlers without answers.

Before Litchfield’s fireworks, the Superchargers’ bowlers laid the foundation by restricting the Phoenix to a modest 116/6. Linsey Smith was the standout, striking twice in her first set to dismiss Georgia Voll (17) and Marie Kelly (20). This triggered a dramatic collapse, with the Phoenix losing five wickets for just 16 runs. Despite a late rally from Sterre Kalis (24 not out) and Em Arlott (32 not out), their unbroken 57-run partnership was not enough to post a challenging total.

Birmingham Phoenix’s campaign continues to falter

For Birmingham Phoenix, this defeat marks their third straight loss, highlighting serious issues with both their batting and bowling. The team has struggled to build momentum and partnerships, and their bowlers have lacked the firepower needed to defend a subpar total. The loss saw them slide further down the points table, while the Northern Superchargers’ performance solidified their position as a top contender for the title.
