The match, characterized by strong batting performances and crucial bowling spells, saw the Brave successfully defend their total of 139 for 7, restricting the Phoenix to 124 all out.
Danni Wyatt-Hodge powers Southern Brave to a competitive total
Having won the toss, Southern Brave Women opted to bat first, aiming to post a formidable total. The innings got off to a cautious start, with opener Maia Bouchier falling early for 6. However, the momentum shifted dramatically with the arrival of Wyatt-Hodge, who played a magnificent innings, scoring a crucial 59 runs off just 39 balls. Her innings was laced with eight boundaries, showcasing her aggressive yet controlled batting style, and establishing a solid foundation for her team.
Wyatt-Hodge found able support in Laura Wolvaardt, who contributed a quickfire 28 runs from 19 deliveries, including three fours and a six, before being dismissed by Millie Taylor. Sophie Devine also added valuable runs, scoring 27 off 25 balls, ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking. Despite a late flurry of wickets, including two each for Megan Schutt and Em Arlott, and one each for Georgia Voll, Millie Taylor, and Hannah Baker, the Brave managed to reach a respectable 139 for 7 from their allotted 100 balls. Captain Adams remained unbeaten on 1, steering her side to a challenging target.
Birmingham Phoenix’s chase falls short against Brave’s bowling attack
Chasing 140 for victory, Birmingham Phoenix Women faced an uphill battle from the outset. Their innings began promisingly with Georgia Voll hitting a couple of boundaries, but she was soon dismissed for 10 by Lauren Bell. The Brave’s bowlers then capitalized, with Tilly Corteen-Coleman quickly removing Emma Lamb (9) and Marie Kelly (0) to leave Phoenix struggling at 19 for 2.
Captain Ellyse Perry attempted to stabilize the innings, scoring 26 runs off 21 balls, but the pressure from the Brave’s bowling unit proved relentless. Amy Jones added 20 runs, briefly rekindling hopes for the Phoenix, but it was Sterre Kalis who stood out for her resilient effort, top-scoring with 44 runs off 34 balls, including seven boundaries. Kalis fought valiantly, trying to shepherd the chase, but lacked significant support from the lower order.

Southern Brave’s bowlers maintained their tight lines and lengths throughout the innings. Lauren Bell was the standout performer, bagging three wickets for just 17 runs. Devine also made crucial breakthroughs, claiming two wickets, while Tilly Corteen-Coleman matched her with two scalps of her own. Chloe Tryon and Georgia Adams each chipped in with a wicket, ensuring that the Phoenix batters never truly settled. In the end, Birmingham Phoenix Women were bundled out for 124 runs in 99 balls, falling 15 runs short of their target. The Southern Brave’s collective bowling effort proved too strong, securing a well-deserved victory.
