In just the opening over of the innings during the 2nd T20I of five-match series, England handed India a dream start as a moment of confusion led to the run out of Sophia Dunkley. The pressure was on early after India had posted a strong total, and with only one run on the board, England suffered a setback they could ill afford. Dunkley, looking to be positive, fell victim to a poor judgment call and a razor-sharp piece of fielding from Deepti Sharma, gifting India their first breakthrough in the very first over bowled by Arundhati Reddy.
Chaotic call and clinical execution from Deepti Sharma ends Sophie Dunkley’s stay
The dismissal occurred off the final delivery of the opening over. Reddy bowled a full and wide delivery, which Dunkley slapped firmly but straight to Deepti at cover. In an inexplicable moment of miscommunication, Dunkley took off for a single without checking with her non-striker, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, who remained rooted to her crease, clearly uninterested in the run. Realizing the blunder too late, Dunkley tried to turn back, but by then, the damage was done.
Deepti, known for her alertness and precision, swooped in on the ball and released a quick and accurate throw, bouncing perfectly into the gloves of wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh. The young keeper made no mistake, dislodging the bails with Dunkley still well short of the crease. It was a textbook example of how sharp fielding and poor communication can turn the tide early in a T20 game. Dunkley departed for just 1 off 5 balls, and England were left stunned at 2/1 after just six legal deliveries, handing India the early momentum on a platter.

Amanjot Kaur stars as India clinch dominant 24-run win to lead series 2-0
India delivered a clinical all-round performance to defeat England by 24 runs in the second T20I at the County Ground in Bristol, taking a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Batting first after losing the toss, India posted a formidable total of 181/4, powered by a stunning unbeaten 63 off 40 balls from Amanjot Kaur and a fluent 63 off 41 by Jemimah Rodrigues.
Though India lost early wickets in the powerplay, including Shafali Verma, Smriti Mandhana and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, the partnership between Jemimah and Amanjot rebuilt the innings steadily before accelerating in the death overs. Amanjot struck nine boundaries, while Richa provided a finishing flourish with an unbeaten 32 off just 20 deliveries, taking India past the 180-mark.
In reply, England faltered early, reduced to 2/3 within two overs thanks to a brilliant run-out from Deepti and incisive bowling from the Indian seamers. Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones stitched together a brief recovery, but the scoreboard pressure mounted. Shree Charani’s double-strike in the middle overs, coupled with tight spells from Arundhati and Deepti, kept England behind the asking rate. Though Sophie Ecclestone’s late cameo (35 off 23) threatened a late twist, India’s fielding and death bowling held strong to secure the win. Amanjot’s all-round performance, her match-winning knock and one vital wicket, rightfully earned her the Player of the Match award, as India now eyes a series victory heading into the third T20I.
