In a spectacular display of athleticism and presence of mind, Durham‘s Mady Villiers delivered one of the finest fielding moments of the Women’s T20 Blast 2025 during the 17th match of the tournament against Surrey at The Oval, London. Her effort saved a certain six and reminded everyone why she is rated among the top fielders in the women’s game.

Mady Villiers’ airborne heroics stuns fans and players alike

The jaw-dropping moment occurred in the sixth over of Surrey’s innings when Suzie Bates bowled a short delivery to opposition skipper Bryony Smith. Looking to capitalise, Smith went for an aggressive pull towards deep square leg. The shot had six written all over it—until Villiers intervened.

Positioned right at the boundary, Villiers timed her leap to perfection, caught the ball mid-air, and while falling over the rope, smartly parried the ball back into play before her body landed outside. Her quick reaction saved six crucial runs and earned applause from the crowd and players alike.

Despite the stunning fielding effort, Bryony continued her aggressive approach and went on to score 44 off just 23 deliveries, including six fours and a six. However, her innings came to an end in the 9th over when she was dismissed by Phoebe Turner—caught fittingly by Mady.

Chasing a target of 142, Surrey made light work of the total, reaching it with 43 balls to spare and securing a dominant 9-wicket victory. Danni Wyatt-Hodge was the chief architect of the chase, hammering 74 off just 36 balls, including 11 boundaries and two sixes, ensuring Surrey’s emphatic win. Earlier in the match, Durham posted 141/5 in their 20 overs, with skipper Hollie Armitage anchoring the innings through a composed 50. Although it wasn’t enough as Surrey ended up winning the contest with an easy chase.
