On the first ball of the over bowled by Sneh Rana, Hasini attempted a paddle sweep and rushed for a second run. However, Deepti, stationed at short fine leg, sprinted in and released the ball in one swift motion—hitting the stumps directly at the non-striker’s end.
Perera’s dive couldn’t save her as replays confirmed she was well short of her ground. The run-out came just when Sri Lanka were settling in, and the Indian camp erupted in celebration. Deepti’s razor-sharp throw not only provided India with the breakthrough but also energized the entire fielding unit.

India’s innings built on partnerships and a late surge
Earlier in the match, India showcased a composed batting performance. Despite a few early setbacks, the middle-order batters stitched together crucial partnerships. The standout knock came from Richa Ghosh, who hammered 58 off 48 deliveries, providing a much-needed boost in the latter part of the innings. Her aggressive intent ensured India went past the 270-mark, a total that put scoreboard pressure on the hosts.
In the bowling department, Chamari Athapaththu was Sri Lanka’s most effective weapon. The skipper led from the front, taking 3 wickets for 43 runs, and was well supported by Sugandika Kumari, who also returned figures of 3/44.
