Mumbai Indians’ (MI) emerging bowling sensation, Sanskriti Gupta, produced a peach of a delivery to dismiss UP Warriorz’s Tahlia McGrath in the tenth match of Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The moment came in the 11th over when McGrath, who had just arrived at the crease, was completely undone by a pinpoint yorker rattling her off-stump’s base.

Gupta, known for her ability to generate skiddy deliveries with accuracy, executed a perfect 95.1 kmph yorker with a seamer’s action. The ball pitched right at the base of the off-stump, leaving McGrath with no time to adjust. The Australian batter attempted to bring her bat down in defense, but the sheer pace and precision of the delivery meant she was beaten comprehensively. In an instant, her off-stump was uprooted, sending a strong statement from the Mumbai bowling unit.

The dismissal proved crucial as Warriorz steadily rebuilt their innings after a shaky start. Losing McGrath, who is known for her ability to anchor and accelerate, was a significant blow to their middle order. Gupta, playing only her second match in the tournament, celebrated the wicket with elation as her teammates rushed to congratulate her.

This breakthrough put Mumbai firmly in control of the game, with the Warriorz struggling to regain momentum. With the score at 87/4, the pressure mounted on the UP batters to salvage their innings against a disciplined Mumbai bowling attack. The way Gupta set up McGrath with consistent tight lines before delivering the killer blow showcased her maturity beyond her years.

Mumbai Indians restrict UP Warriorz to 142/9 in a WPL 2025 clash

The Mumbai’s bowlers put on a disciplined performance as they restricted the Warriorz to a modest 142/9 in their allotted 20 overs. After winning the toss and electing to field, Mumbai’s bowlers struck at regular intervals to ensure Warriorz couldn’t capitalize on their aggressive start.

The Warriorz got off to a flying start in the powerplay, courtesy of Grace Harris, who played a blistering knock of 45 off just 26 deliveries, smashing six fours and two sixes. However, her dismissal in the ninth over proved to be the turning point as Mumbai clawed their way back into the game. Dinesh Vrinda (33 off 30) provided some resistance, but wickets fell in clusters, stalling Warriorz’s momentum.

Nat Sciver-Brunt was the pick of the bowlers, delivering an outstanding spell of 3/18 in her four overs. She was well supported by Shabnim Ismail (2/33) and Gupta (2/11), who dismantled the middle order. Hayley Matthews and Amelia Kerr chipped in with a wicket each, ensuring that UPW never regained control of the innings.

Despite a promising start, Warriorz’s suffered a late collapse, losing four wickets in the last six overs. Their lower order failed to accelerate, with Uma Chetry (13 not out off 20) struggling to find the boundaries. Mumbai will now look to chase down 143 and register another victory in their WPL 2025 campaign.
