Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will enter the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 as the defending champions, but retaining the title will not be an easy task. Under the leadership of captain Smriti Mandhana, the team will have to overcome multiple challenges, as several key players from the previous season will not be part of the tournament this time.
One of the biggest setbacks for RCB is the absence of star players Sophie Devine, Kate Cross and Sophie Molineux. These players played a crucial role in RCB’s title-winning campaign in the 2024 season. Additionally, the availability of star all-rounder Ellyse Perry remains uncertain as she sustained an injury during the 2025 Women’s Ashes against England.
How did Ellyse Perry get injured?
Perry, the star Australian all-rounder, suffered an injury while fielding on the first day of the pink-ball Test against England. She fell awkwardly on her left hip, forcing her to leave the field. Despite this, she later came out to bat but looked uncomfortable, batting at number 10 and managing to score only two runs.
Perry’s performance in WPL 2024
Perry was instrumental in RCB’s success during the WPL 2024 season. She emerged as the Orange Cap winner, scoring the most runs in the tournament. She amassed a total of 347 runs in nine matches at an impressive average of 69.40 and a strike rate of 125.72, including two half-centuries. Her exceptional batting played a significant role in the team’s triumph.

Will Ellyse Perry play in WPL 2025?
Perry’s participation in WPL 2025 remains uncertain. In an interview with Female Cricket, she was asked about her chances of playing for RCB this year. While she did not give a definitive answer, she expressed hope of recovering in time. Perry stated, “In the coming days, I will have more clarity on what will happen. However, I don’t think there is a major issue with my hips. I should be fine.”
If Perry is unable to participate in WPL 2025, it would be a major setback for RCB. With several key players already ruled out, her absence could impact the team’s balance significantly. Under the leadership of Mandhana, RCB will need to find new alternatives and focus on strengthening their squad.
