The highly anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 is just around the corner, and fans are eagerly waiting for another thrilling season of competitive cricket. With top international and domestic stars set to take the field, the tournament promises high-intensity matches and unforgettable moments. As teams finalize their preparations, the excitement among supporters continues to grow, with expectations running high for another blockbuster edition.

Delhi Capitals aiming to end final heartbreak

One of the most consistent teams in WPL history, Delhi Capitals, will enter the 2025 season with a clear goal—to lift their maiden title. The franchise has reached the final in both previous editions but fell short on both occasions. In 2023, they lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) by seven wickets, while in 2024, they suffered an eight-wicket defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Despite these setbacks, Delhi Capitals have built a reputation for their strong performances and will once again be considered top contenders in the upcoming season.

Jemimah Rodrigues determined to clinch the trophy

The Capitals’ dynamic batter Jemimah Rodrigues has expressed her determination to bring home the WPL trophy this time. Reflecting on the team’s journey so far, she acknowledged their consistent performances and is confident about overcoming the final hurdle.

“We have been very good and consistent in the last two seasons as a team. Of course, there’s this one final, which I’m sure we will cross and get our hands on the trophy, but we have been doing the right things,” Rodrigues stated in a team release.

Rodrigues, who has scored 381 runs in 18 WPL matches with a strike rate of 143.82, has been working hard to improve her game. She emphasized the importance of replicating match situations in practice, including power-hitting drills to enhance her batting.

“My preparation is pretty simple. Whatever I’m going to face in the match, I’ll try to bring those situations into practice, be it playing aggressively or holding the innings together from one end. There’s also a lot of power-hitting because it’s T20. So I use the heavy balls which help me get my bat swing faster and gives more power,” added Rodrigues.

Rodrigues also highlighted the WPL’s impact on women’s cricket, pointing out how the tournament has raised the competitive standard and significantly boosted the sport’s fanbase in India.

“The other biggest impact is the fan base. I think because of WPL, and the teams, people have started following the players even more. The craze for women’s cricket in India has gone way up,” Rodrigues added further.
