In a moment of sheer brilliance, Voll pulled off a stunning catch in the 64th over of England’s first innings. Darcie Brown delivered a fuller-length ball angling in on middle and off, and Filer, looking to play an aggressive shot, got a thick edge. Voll, stationed at second slip, reacted swiftly, sprinting forward and diving to complete an incredible low catch. The debutant’s sharp reflexes and composure under pressure made the difficult grab look effortless. The dismissal saw Filer depart for 8 runs off 12 balls, including two boundaries.

Darcie Brown’s impact with the ball
Brown, who played a crucial role with the ball, claimed her second wicket with Filer’s dismissal. Earlier in the innings, she had already sent England’s opener Tammy Beaumont back to the pavilion in the eighth over. Beaumont was trapped leg-before-wicket by a full, nipping delivery that struck her in front of the middle and leg stump. After a brief consultation with captain Heather Knight, Beaumont opted not to review the decision and walked off after scoring 8 runs off 15 balls.

Australia in control at stumps
England struggled to put up a formidable first-innings total, getting bowled out for just 170. The standout performer for Australia was leg-spinner Alana King, who ripped through the English batting lineup, finishing as the top wicket-taker with four scalps. In response, Australia ended Day 1 on a solid note, scoring 56 runs for the loss of just one wicket in 22 overs. Despite the early dismissal of one opener, the hosts remained steady, trailing England by 114 runs heading into the second day. With a strong batting lineup still to come, Australia will be looking to take control of the match as the Women’s Ashes Test progresses.
