In a shocking turn of events, Pakistan‘s U19 Women’s team, led by Komal Khan, was eliminated from the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 after a 13-run defeat (DLS method) to Ireland. The Group B encounter, held at the JCA Oval on January 22, saw Ireland, captained by Niamh MacNulty, secure their place in the Super Sixes stage.

Notably, Pakistan exited the tournament without a single win, finishing last in the group with one point and a net run rate of -3.271. Their campaign began with a washed-out match against the USA, followed by a six-wicket loss to England, and ended with the disappointing loss to Ireland.

Ireland’s batting resilience in rain-affected match

Ireland opted to bat first in a rain-interrupted game and managed to post 69 for five in the allotted 9 overs. Alice Walsh top-scored with an aggressive 31 off 19 balls, hitting five boundaries. Contributions from Freya Sargent (11), Annabel Squires (13), and Abbi Harrison (10) ensured a competitive total.

Pakistan’s bowlers put up a spirited fight, with right-arm pacer Memoona Khalid taking two wickets for 6 runs. Left-arm spinner Mahnoor Zeb and leg-spinner Quratulain Ahsen also bagged one wicket each to restrict Ireland.

Pakistan’s batting collapse leads to their elimination

Chasing 70 to win, Pakistan’s batting faltered under pressure. Despite a promising 24-run opening stand between skipper Komal and Fatima Khan in 2.2 overs, the team collapsed to 59 for seven in nine overs. Fatima’s run-out for 10 triggered a dramatic slide, with no other batter managing to stabilize the innings.

Ellie McGee was the star with the ball for Ireland, taking 2 for 13 in her two overs, while Sargent and Lara McBride claimed one wicket each. The defeat dashed Pakistan’s hopes of progressing further in the tournament.
