The highly anticipated ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 is set to commence on January 18 in Malaysia, marking the second edition of the tournament following its successful debut in 2023. This competition aims to spotlight emerging talent from around the world, offering young cricketers the opportunity to represent their nations on an international stage.

A platform for future stars

The inaugural edition of the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup proved to be a launchpad for many young players who have since excelled at the senior level. Indian pacer Titas Sadhu, who was named Player of the Final in 2023, is now an integral part of India’s bowling attack. Similarly, England’s Ryana MacDonald-Gay, another standout from the tournament, recently made her Test debut against South Africa. This year’s event features 16 teams divided into four groups, including debutants Malaysia, Nepal, Nigeria, and Samoa.

Group allocations and tournament structure

The group-stage format ensures every team gets to play three matches within their group. The top three teams from each group will advance to the Super 6 stage, where they will face teams from other groups they haven’t yet played against.

The points from the group stage carry forward into the Super 6, determining the semi-finalists. The semi-finals are scheduled for January 31, while the final showdown will take place on February 2.

  • Group A: India, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, West Indies
  • Group B: England, Ireland, Pakistan, USA
  • Group C: New Zealand, Nigeria, Samoa, South Africa
  • Group D: Australia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Scotland
