The Women’s Super Smash 2024/25 season is set to kick off on December 26 at Seddon Park, Hamilton, alongside the men’s competition, marking a significant milestone in New Zealand cricket.

Defending champions Wellington Blaze will enter the tournament as favourites, aiming to extend their record as the most successful team in the league’s history, having claimed eight titles. Close contenders Canterbury Magicians, with four championships to their name, will look to challenge the Blaze’s dominance.

Teams and Format

The tournament features six teams: Auckland Hearts, Canterbury Magicians, Wellington Blaze, Central Hinds, Northern Districts and Otago Sparks. The competition will follow a double round-robin format, where each team will play home-and-away matches. The top three teams at the end of the preliminary stage will advance to the playoffs, culminating in the grand final at the Basin Reserve on February 2.

Unlike the league stage, which does not feature Super Overs for tied matches, the playoff rounds will include provisions for Super Overs, ensuring decisive outcomes in the knockout games.

The upcoming edition celebrates 20 years of T20 cricket in New Zealand, with a nostalgic touch as teams don retro-style jerseys inspired by the first-ever T20I between White Ferns and Southern Stars (now Australia women), played at Eden Park two decades ago.
