In a dominant display at Junction Oval, Melbourne Renegades cruised to a convincing nine-wicket victory over Sydney Thunder in Match 37 of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2024. Led by Sophie Molineux’s all-round brilliance, the Renegades chased down the target of 134 with ease.

Sydney Thunder struggles against spin

After electing to bat, Sydney Thunder managed 133 before being bowled out in 19.1 overs. After the dismissal of both the openers, Phoebe Litchfield smashed 30 off 17 balls, while Tahlia Wilson contributed a steady 27 off 30 deliveries. Sammy Jo Johnson added a quick 21, but the rest of the batters failed to score.

The Renegades’ bowling attack, spearheaded by Molineux, made life difficult for the Thunder batters. She claimed an impressive 4/23 in her four overs, effectively dismantling the middle order. Georgia Wareham and Deandra Dottin provided excellent support with two wickets apiece, while Milly Illingworth and Sarah Coyte chipped in with one wicket each. Their disciplined bowling effort restricted the Thunder to a below-par total.
