The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the women’s squad for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, starting October 24. All three games will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Harmanpreet Kaur, who is facing backlash on her social media for her captaincy following India’s early exit from the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in UAE, has been retained for the upcoming ODIs, which also serves as a warm-up for next year’s 50-over World Cup.
Smriti Mandhana, who had an inconsistent run in the T20 World Cup, will continue to be Kaur’s deputy.
4 uncapped players in India squad
The selectors have also announced the inclusion of four uncapped players in the squad, including Tejal Hasabnis, Sayali Satgare, Priya Mishra and Saima Thakor. The quartet, who were part of the India A squad in Australia recently, have been rewarded for their impressive performances.
Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh will be unavailable for the series due to her 12th standard board exams. All-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has been rested, while leg-spinner Asha Sobhana was unavailable for selection after suffering an injury during the Women’s T20 World Cup.
