Several cities in Gujarat have been severely affected by flood-like situations due to heavy rains over the past few days. Vadodara, in particular, has been hit hard, with the Vishwamitri River breaching its banks and flooding low-lying areas. Although the rain has paused, large portions of the city remain inundated, causing significant disruption to daily life. Roads, buildings, and vehicles are submerged, leaving many residents stranded and in need of assistance.

Trapped in dangerous situation in Vadodara

Indian women’s cricket team spinner Radha Yadav found herself trapped in the severe flooding that has engulfed Vadodara. On Wednesday, Yadav shared a video on her Instagram story, revealing the challenging situation she was in and how the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) came to her rescue. The video depicted NDRF personnel using boats to navigate the flooded streets, rescuing Yadav and other stranded individuals. “We are stuck in a very bad situation. Thank you so much #NDRF for rescuing us,” Yadav captioned the video, expressing her gratitude for the timely intervention.

Radha is a key member of the 15-player squad that will compete in the tournament. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is scheduled to travel to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the World Cup, where they will also face defending champions Australia, as well as Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka in Group A. Before the opening match, the Indian team will play two warm-up games against South Africa and the West Indies.

Community response and safety concerns

Amid the ongoing crisis, former Indian men’s cricketer Irfan Pathan took to social media to urge the residents of Vadodara to prioritize their safety. “Stay safe, Baroda. Flooding is widespread, so please stay indoors for your own safety,” Pathan tweeted, emphasizing the importance of caution as the city continues to deal with the aftermath of the extreme weather. His message echoed the sentiments of many as the community grapples with the devastating impact of the floods.
