Legendary Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami is set to share her experience and expertise with the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) women’s team in the upcoming Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) season. Goswami joins the franchise as a mentor, bringing a wealth of knowledge from her illustrious 20-year international career.

“It’s an honor to join such a quality franchise,” Goswami said in a statement released by the Knight Riders. She expressed her admiration for the Knight Riders’ success across leagues, particularly in the IPL.

“Knight Riders have done so well in India and around the world, and to join TKR Women at the WCPL is a pleasure,” she added.

“Thanks to KKR management for thinking about me as a mentor and I’m really looking forward to this tournament.”

Goswami retired from international cricket in 2022, leaving behind a remarkable legacy. Across formats, she claimed a staggering 355 wickets for India, etching her name as one of the most prolific bowlers in women’s cricket history.

Star-studded TKR squad aiming for second WCPL title

Goswami’s arrival coincides with the Knight Riders bolstering their squad with international stars. Players like Jemimah Rodrigues, Meg Lanning, Jess Jonassen and Shikha Pandey have recently joined the ranks, strengthening TKR’s bid for a second WCPL championship.

Recalling her initial conversations about joining TKR, Goswami mentioned her admiration for the management team, specifically CEO Venky Mysore. She praised his leadership style and expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome she received from both Mysore and Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, co-owner of the Knight Riders franchise.

“The conversation about me joining TKR started with Mr. Venky Mysore,” Goswami said. “As a management head, the way he takes care of everyone is amazing. I felt really honoured by the way both Shah Rukh Khan and Venky sir welcomed me and spoke to me when we met in Kolkata during the IPL.”

WCPL set for thrilling action

The 2024 WCPL kicks off on August 21 and culminates on August 29. Featuring three teams – TKR, defending champions Barbados Royals and Guyana Amazon Warriors – the tournament will see all seven matches played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba.

Cricket fans can expect a high-octane competition with the inclusion of legendary figures like Goswami and the addition of top international talent across the teams.
