n the final T20I of the West Indies Women tour of Sri Lanka 2024, the West Indies Women emerged victorious by 6 wickets against Sri Lanka Women at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, the West Indies Women successfully chased down Sri Lanka Women’s total of 141/7, reaching 142/4 in 19.5 overs.

Windies bowlers keep Sri Lanka batters in check

Sri Lanka Women posted a competitive total of 141/7 in their 20 overs. Chamari Athapaththu top-scored with 38 runs off 38 balls, including 3 fours and 3 sixes. Harshitha Samarawickrama added 28 runs off 26 balls, and Kavisha Dilhari contributed 26 runs off 22 balls. Despite these efforts, the West Indies bowlers kept the scoring in check. Aaliyah Alleyne and Afy Fletcher were the pick of the bowlers, both claiming 2 wickets for 25 runs in their 4 overs. Chinelle Henry, Karishma Ramharack, and Cherry Ann Fraser also made valuable contributions with the ball.

Shemaine Campbelle, Hayley Matthews take West Indies home

Chasing 142 for victory, the West Indies Women got off to a steady start with Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor putting up crucial runs. Matthews scored 49 runs off 40 balls, and Taylor added 33 runs off 30 balls. Shemaine Campbelle’s impressive 41 runs off 30 balls, featuring 3 fours and 2 sixes, guided the team to a last-ball win. Kawya Kavindi was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, taking 2 wickets for 27 runs in her 3.5 overs. Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dilhari also chipped in with a wicket each, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the West Indies from securing the win.

The West Indies Women won the match by 6 wickets, sealing the series 2-1. Campbelle was named Player of the Match for her crucial innings. Matthews, with consistent performances throughout the series, was awarded the Player of the Series.
