Team India are set to travel Bangladesh for their upcoming Women’s T20I series, set to begin from April 28 at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. Ahead of the start of the five-match leg, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Women’s squad for the shortest format. Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to lead the outfit with Smriti Mandhana being her deputy.
Asha Sobhana and Sajana Sajeevan received maiden call-up
Asha Sobhana and Sajana Sajeevan, who stood out with their exceptional performances in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, have received their first India T20I call-up.
Asha was the league’s second-highest wicket-taker with 12 wickets and was also second best for champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), just behind the Purple Cap winner Shreyanka Patil who took 13 wickets. Meanwhile, Sajana excelled in her finishing roles for the Mumbai Indians (MI), scoring 87 runs in 6 matches with a strike rate of 158.
D Hemalatha and Radha Yadav return
D Hemalatha and Radha Yadav have made their comeback to the Indian squad. Hemalatha’s last appearance for India was in the 2022 Asia Cup final in Bangladesh, while Radha had been out of action since India’s semi-final loss at the T20 World Cup in South Africa. Radha notably excelled in the WPL 2024 for Delhi Capitals (DC), taking 10 wickets in nine matches with an economy rate of 7.48.

Jemimah Rodrigues misses out
Star Indian player Jemimah Rodrigues will not be joining the Bangladesh tour due to a back injury and is currently receiving treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The decision to rest her is a precautionary measure in preparation for the upcoming T20 World Cup. In addition, all-rounders Minnu Mani and Kanika Ahuja, as well as left-arm spinner Mannat Kashyap, have been excluded from the squad selected for the home T20Is against Australia in January this year.
