Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have announced their Women’s squad for the forthcoming white-ball tour of South Africa. The announcement comes ahead of a crucial series that encompasses both T20Is and ODIs.

Captaincy and fixture details

Leading the charge will be none other than Chamari Athapaththu, the prolific all-rounder and current ICC Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year. The tour is scheduled to commence with a three-match T20I series, followed by an equal number of ODIs. Notably, these matches will contribute to the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 cycle.

Team standings

The tour holds significant importance in the context of ICC rankings, with South Africa presently positioned at No.2 on the ICC Women’s Championship standings. The hosts have accumulated 20 points from 15 games, trailing only behind table-toppers Australia. On the other hand, Sri Lanka hold the eighth position with 11 points from 15 games, underscoring the significance of this series in their bid for ascent.

Tour details

The action-packed series is set to kick off on March 27 with the T20I leg taking place in Benoni. This tour marks a significant return for Sri Lanka’s women’s team to South Africa for a bilateral series since 2019.
