The low-scoring contest entertained fans with thrill where Mumbai eventually won the contest by 5 wickets.

However, disciplined bowling from Mumbai Indians Women, particularly Shabnim Ismail (3 wickets for 18 runs) and Amelia Kerr (4 wickets for 17 runs), restricted Gujarat Giants Women from reaching a formidable total.

In response, Mumbai Indians Women chased down the target with five wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare, finishing at 129/5 in 18.1 overs. Harmanpreet Kaur led the charge with a commanding 46 runs off 41 balls, supported by valuable contributions from Natalie Sciver (22 runs off 18 balls) and Amelia (31 runs off 25 balls). Despite some resistance from the Gujarat Giants Women bowlers, Mumbai Indians Women showcased determination and composure to secure the victory.

The bowlers from both sides displayed commendable efforts, with Mumbai Indians Women’s bowling attack led by Shabnim and Amelia  proving to be decisive in restricting Gujarat Giants Women’s total. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants Women’s bowlers, including Tanuja and Kathryn, put up a spirited performance but fell short in defending their target against a determined Mumbai Indians Women’s batting lineup.

In the end, it was Mumbai Indians Women who emerged victorious, clinching the match by five wickets. Their well-rounded performance with both bat and ball ensured a thrilling start to their campaign in the WPL 2024, setting the tone for an exciting season ahead.
