In a significant blow to the Gujarat Giants, the highly touted uncapped player Kashvee Gautam has been sidelined for the upcoming season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Having made headlines during the players’ auction in December 2023, Kashvee secured her position as the most expensive uncapped player in WPL history after Gujarat Giants splurged a staggering INR 2 crore for the talented fast-bowling all-rounder.

Kashvee Gautam’s absence

Kashvee gained prominence with her stellar performance for the India A team against England A, where she showcased her prowess by claiming three crucial wickets. Her exceptional skills and adaptability made her a prized addition to the Gujarat Giants’ roster. However, her participation in the upcoming season has been curtailed due to an injury setback.

The media advisory released by WPL confirmed Kashvee’s unfortunate absence from the tournament, citing her injury as the reason for withdrawal.

“Rising star Kashvee Gautam, the most expensive uncapped Indian player in the history of TATA Women’s Premier League (WPL) has been ruled out of the upcoming second edition owing to an injury,” the media advisory shared by WPL read.

Replacement announced

In light of Kashvee’s unavailability, the Gujarat Giants have swiftly appointed Mumbai’s Sayali Sathgare as her replacement, securing her services at a reserve price of INR 10 lakhs. This strategic move aims to fill the void left by Kashvee and bolster the team’s lineup for the upcoming challenges in WPL 2024.

“The Gujarat Giants, who had secured the services of Kashvee for INR 2 crore have named Mumbai’s Sayali Sathgare as a replacement at a reserve price of INR 10 lakhs,” the media release added.

Additional setback: Kanika Ahuja also ruled out

Adding to the woes of the tournament, another setback emerged as Kanika Ahuja, a promising all-rounder, was also ruled out of WPL 2024 due to an injury. Kanika, who was picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the inaugural WPL auction for INR 35 lakhs, will be sorely missed by her team.

In response to Kanika’s unfortunate injury, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Shradda Pokharkar, a left-arm fast bowler hailing from Maharashtra, as her replacement. Pokharkar’s inclusion in the squad comes at a reserve price of INR 10 lakhs, as announced by the team management.

“India All-rounder Kanika Ahuja too, is ruled out of the WPL 2024 owing to an injury. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have named Shradda Pokharkar, Maharashtra’s left-arm fast bowler as a replacement. She has been signed at a reserve price of INR 10 lakhs,” the media release added further.
