At the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 Auction held in Mumbai on Saturday, several prominent overseas players failed to find buyers, leaving them without contracts for the upcoming WPL season.

A total of 165 players had thrown their hats at the auction table, creating an air of anticipation among fans and franchises alike. However, when the bidding concluded, only 91 players found takers, and among them, 30 secured coveted WPL contracts.

Chamari Athapaththu, an explosive Sri Lanka batter, Kim Garth, a reliable Australia all-rounder and Deandra Dottin, the West Indies stalwart, were surprisingly among the unsold players. Their absence from the list of sold players raised eyebrows and stirred discussions among cricket enthusiasts.

The five franchises  – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz – now find themselves with no remaining slots for the upcoming season. The auction has solidified their squads, and team strategies are expected to crystallize as they approach the tournament.
