The 50th match of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2023 took place between Perth Scorchers Women and Melbourne Stars Women at WACA Ground in Perth on Wednesday. The contest saw a complete domination from Melbourne Stars as the Annabel Sutherland-led side registered a 33-run victory.

The Melbourne Stars Women won the toss and elected to bat, posting a challenging total of 157/6 in their 20 overs. The highlight of their innings was a splendid knock by Sophia Dunkley, who scored a commanding 73 runs off 48 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes.

Alice Capsey also contributed significantly with 43 runs off 34 deliveries. The Perth Scorchers Women bowlers put up a commendable effort, with Piepa Cleary leading the way by taking 2 wickets for 30 runs.

In response, the Perth Scorchers Women fought hard but fell short, finishing their innings at 124/9 in 20 overs. Amy Jones played a valiant innings, scoring 42 runs off 30 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six. Sophie Devine, the Scorchers’ star player, was dismissed for a rare duck.

Sophie Day from the Melbourne Stars Women was the standout bowler, claiming an impressive 4 wickets for 26 runs in her 4 overs. Captain Sutherland and Alice Capsey also contributed with the ball, taking 2 wickets each. Ultimately, the Melbourne Stars Women emerged victorious by 33 runs.
