In the 14th match of the Women’s Big Bash League 2023, Sydney Sixers Women elected to bat first after winning the toss against Melbourne Renegades Women at the Junction Oval.

Sydney Sixers Innings

The Sydney Sixers managed to post a competitive total of 164/7 in their 20 overs. Ellyse Perry top-scored with a solid 50 off 41 balls, well-supported by Ashleigh Gardners brisk 37 off 30 deliveries and Chloe Tryon‘s quickfire 41 off 16 balls, which included five sixes.

The Renegades’ bowling attack put up a spirited performance, with Hayley Matthews leading the charge, claiming three wickets for just 17 runs in her 4 overs. Georgia Wareham also contributed with two wickets.

Melbourne Renegades Innings

Chasing the target, the Renegades put up a valiant effort, but fell short by 6 runs, ending their innings at 158/9 in 20 overs. Tammy Beaumont was the top scorer for the Renegades with a blistering 43 off 24 deliveries. Despite the contributions from Georgia Wareham and Sarah Coyte towards the end, Sydney Sixers’ tight bowling restricted the Renegades’ chase.

Player of the Match

Ashleigh Gardner’s all-round performance earned her the Player of the Match award, as she not only contributed with the bat but also chipped in with two crucial wickets while bowling.

The victory for Sydney Sixers Women opened their account in the points table.
