Australia Women achieved a remarkable eight-wicket victory against West Indies Women at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on Saturday. This thrilling win showcased their dominance and secured the three-match ODI series for the hosts by a convincing margin of 2-0.

It’s worth highlighting that Australia had already clinched the three-match T20I series during the West Indies Women’s Tour of Australia 2023 before their victory in the ODI leg. This dual success underscores their exceptional performance and dominance in women’s cricket.

West Indies’ Innings

Australia strategically put West Indies into bat in a match played under overcast conditions. This decision proved advantageous as the Caribbeans kept on losing wickets at regular intervals.

Hayley Matthews contributed 23 runs, while Rashada Williams, the wicketkeeper-batter, exhibited resilience by scoring 25 runs off 71 balls. However, the rest of the batting lineup struggled, with only Cherry Ann Fraser showing some promise as she scored 19 runs off 34 balls. Unfortunately, the remaining batters failed to make a significant impact. The fielding side conceded nine extras as West Indies were eventually bowled out for 103 runs in 31.4 overs.

Australia’s Innings

In pursuit of a modest target of 104 runs, Australia embarked on their innings with a confident and brisk start, courtesy of their opening duo, Alyssa Healy and Phoebe Litchfield. Captain Healy showcased her batting prowess, contributing 32 runs from 27 deliveries, while Litchfield’s stylish performance added 27 runs from 29 balls. However, both openers were eventually dismissed.

Ellyse Perry took the reins and brought the match to a stylish conclusion. Perry remained unbeaten, scoring a powerful 29 runs from 21 deliveries, with Beth Mooney partnering her with 11 not out from 17 balls. The fielding side contributed seven extras during the innings.

Result

In the remarkable display of dominance, the hosts successfully chased down the target in just 15.3 overs, securing a stunning victory that underscored Australia Women’s exceptional performance in the match and series.
