The highly anticipated 2023 edition of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) is set to kick off from October 19 in Sydney, promising exciting cricket action. The opening match will feature a clash between Sydney Sixers Women and Melbourne Stars Women.
As the WBBL|09 draws nearer, the Brisbane Heat Women have completed their 15-player squad with a significant modification. The Heat has addressed the unavailability of New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr for the initial two weeks of the season.
Kerr, the talented cricketer, is currently in South Africa with the White Ferns squad. As she is playing cricket regularly, Kerr will be taking a break before joining the Brisbane Heat squad.
Sarah Glenn joins Brisbane Heat
To fill the void left by Kerr’s absence, the Brisbane Heat have signed rising England leg-spinner Sarah Glenn. Glenn, who previously represented the Perth Scorchers in WBBL|06, delivered an impressive performance, locking a club-high 17 wickets. Her signing comes as her second stint in the league, having been overlooked in the inaugural draft earlier this month.
Glenn’s cricketing credentials are underscored by her position as the ICC’s fifth-ranked T20I bowler. Her inclusion in the Brisbane Heat squad not only bolsters their bowling attack but also adds firepower to the lower order with the bat.

Darren Noffke, Head Coach of the Brisbane Heat, expressed his satisfaction with Glenn’s acquisition. He noted Glenn’s impressive performances during the Ashes series, even in the face of illness, as well as her contributions in England’s other international games and The Hundred.
“Sarah was very impressive during the Ashes despite missing some games with illness, and then England’s other international games in the season, as well as in The Hundred, so we’re very pleased she is available for us while Melie is having a short break. She’s a great competitor and very skillful on the field, and she is also someone who works really well within the team environment, which is very important when you are bringing a squad together,” said Noffke in an official statement.
For the unversed, the Brisbane Heat will commence their WBBL 2023 campaign with a match against the Melbourne Renegades at Junction Oval on October 20.
